@bliglum Blacks also had similar treatment back then. So I would say they were both equally oppressed.

This isn’t going to pass and if it does it will get quickly struck down for violating the Constitution.

Because that is also unconstitutional.

It is and is probably a publicity stunt to save her dying career. People don't know this, but McCarty's career was basically dead in the water before he started ranting about Communists in the government.

He was a sad old lunatic and should be forgotten about.

@carminescurse I am certain this is a publicity stunt by the politician to save her ailing career for a bit longer. After all Colin Kappernick was about to retire when he knelled during the National Anthem for attention.

That is directly violating the constitution.

The acres were given back to the former slave owners by the government.

@worldofdoom995 No it was a field order by William T. Sherman and for a time enforced by the Freedman's Bureau.

Only because of people beliving in a self-fulfilling prophecy. People now act like the Civil War was inevitable but it wasn't. Other nations didn't have to fight a war to abolish slavery. They just freed the slaves, offer their former owners some compensation and moved on. The Civil War was only inevitable because the Southern yahoos who thought Lincoln's election meant "The Army is coming to take our slaves" so they secceded and then attacked an Army installation and wouldn't you know it they provoked Lincoln into using the Army to take away their slaves.

Slaves were kidnapped. People aren't property of someone else.

@ShiroiKiba Their ancestors couldn't parlay it into anything as the land was given back to their former slave owners after less than a decade.
