Congratulations! Same here, zero credit card debt, I buy what I can afford with cash, and my minivan is 26 years old this month. Has a bit of rust, but who cares it works just fine. My house was built in the 1920's. I save money and about twice a year, I fix what can and pay from my savings what I can't. Not much left to fix. Love my house and love that I don't have to depend on anyone. My Social Security covers all my expenses. There is a rainbow at end, I have mine you will have yours.

@irisuddin6676 You will be surprised by how you can survive if you focus on it. Often what we think we need; we can live without. My only income is Social Security, but I have all I need, since I decided what was most important for me. Iris is my middle name.

@michaelbrowne792 That would not be a good idea, you have no real control over it. You can only depend on what you have on hand. Save with gold and silver? No, you can bet most of those people who do will end with zero, because the people who have it secured "for you" are going to disappear. Your best bet is cut your expenses to the minimum possible and save on things that you can control.

@ Great idea, if this was the 1940s. Get this most parents now need two jobs to make ends meet. And where would the 35K per child come from, magic land? The US is beyond broke, thanks to the wars we finance, plus the US dollar is becoming worthless. Don't come to me with that "non-citizen" the US can't even cover free lunch for poor US children, in our town, we pay for it, a tax that I don't mind and my youngest is 50. Get real, kids in schools now, are not even taught things I used to learn in elementary school. You, like many are falling for the nonsense. You should have been around when I was a kid to see, what we learn then that is not even taught now.

@DomEve-m4u If people are expected to depend on local communities, state and especially the fed, they are in for a surprise, especially those who lost it all. Most don't give a dang. Most food shelves depend on good people. The Red Cross is just a scam, about the only group that I trust is the Salvation Army. And some church groups, like the Mormons, Mennonites and the Amish. The last two groups actually work together and help not just with food but also with their hands. I used to be a member of the INTERNATIONAL Red Cross. I would not depend in the US Red Cross for anything. They are great with parties for the very wealthy. You should do a thing called RESEARCH. Trump and I met when we were both 22, he is 7 months older than me. The only thing going for him is that the Democrats are worse.
