  1. Keeping their fuel options open. Germany is making it without Russian gas, but just barely. They would like to stay warm and continue to run their economy this winter.

  2. The UK’s total tank park of Challengers is less than 400. The numbers that they can spare amount to a symbolic gesture and a significant logistics and maintenance burden, not to mention the retraining. A meaningful solution would be getting the 300-odd Challenger I that Jordan is retiring. The company-sized tranches of disparate foreign vehicles Ukraine is getting are of course welcome, but major logistical headaches.
