@drewmalesky9869 Which way is it moving, and hasn’t it been speeding up? October was the largest monthly gain in a couple years. And whose territory is close to 25% occupied?

@Mimi.the.Capybara The Russians are constantly reconstituting units and their force is growing, which is why the AFU warns that they are ‘increasingly outnumbered’ and being pushed back everywhere. It’s Ukraine that is in extremis with respect to personnel shortage.

@Ode-to-Odysseus Russia’s October advances were the largest in a month for the last couple years. The AFU’s Kursk salient has been reduced by half. Russians pushing northward from Robotyne. Advances in multiple areas of Ukraine’s southeast. Russians have broken into Kupyansk. And there are reports (both Russian and Ukrainian) of Russian reconnaissance troops entering the Chernihiv area unopposed. Difficult to call this ‘barely changed’.

No commentator any longer pretends that Ukraine can achieve their aim of recovering all their lost territory on the battlefield.

@VorbildRoß That occurred briefly several months ago. Since then, the Russians have been steadily reducing it down to half its original size while also attacking vigorously in numerous parts of Ukraine. They don’t talk about that here, it requires looking at professional analysts like ISW and mappers like Deep State (sanctioned by Ukraine) or the Russian-friendly but often more up to date Suriyak.

The Russians are taking very heavy casualties, but replacing them apace. The severity of the problem for AFU is demonstrated by their recent tendency to rapidly relinquish any wooded area; they cannot maintain enough troop density to prevent repeated Russian infiltration and advance in these areas. The commentators constantly fling about the term “unsustainable” with respect to Russian losses, but it is the AFU that is critically short of personnel.

@Ode-to-Odysseus all accurate, check mappers and ISW. Although Ukraine-friendly, ISW are professional analysts and hew to factual findings.

@ That’s painfully ignorant. Go to ISW or some other analyst site, read a little text, and look at some maps. And they are pro-Ukraine.

Just wait awhile. That’s how it’s going in the east and south.
