How in the world was this a "racially motivated stop?" The deputy couldn't even see who was driving when she pulled him over, which she had every right to since he was riding in the other lane.

I don't believe he showed up "acting like superman." He knew she had been on scene with him for at least 8 mins and had been asking him to get out of the car. He showed up and immediately told him to do what she's asking him to do. Sure, they can still use the videos to better train because every stop is unique but this was one dash cam/ body cam that I felt the cops did it pretty by the book

@EliasVoorhees and respectfully to you, you are not correct. I think by law, they did a "pretty by the book stop." As in, they had the right to pull him over, they were correct in asking him to come out of the car, they didn't violate his rights and I believe the evidence will hold up in court. Of course, traffic stops are all unique. I already agreed to that. My brother in law is a deputy and we talked about this case. He told me what he would've done differently and I agree with him on those things. Of course it's easier to look back in hindsight. They definitely made mistakes as newer deputies. But they were more mistakes that jeopardized their own safety than mistakes with dehart and his rights/ stop. I've been on ride alongs, I know how much time they spend on traffic stops. I still don't believe he came in there "like superman." He knew she had been trying to get him out. He showed authority and displaying the attitude of, "ok you're seriously getting out of the car now that I'm here and she has backup." She had asked him between 37 and 45 times to exit the vehicle. How many times should officer McCowan have to ask? Because he asked quite a few too. The police can always learn from every stop because they're all different.

@robertdewindt862 I agree. Apparently, if you're a certain color, you can drive in the other lane because if you stop them, it's "racially motivated." So theoretically you couldn't ever stop them because it would be "racially motivated."

@anthonythompson9471 I'm not denying that those things have never happened, but you can't claim that every black person pulled over is a racially motivated stop. I think Kenny would've mentioned something had they been messing with him beforehand. He was driving his grandma's car, so the tags didn't alert her to it being him. It's nighttime on a dark road, and it's hard to see who's in the car. She testified in the hearing that she had never met him before and didn't know him. I believe if she had a motivation to stop him, she would've lit him up the moment he swerved. But at his window, she even explained, "I saw you swerve, and I thought ok no big deal, but then you went into the other lane more than once." Had he stayed off his phone, which is against the law in Tennessee, and not drove in the other lane so carelessly, she probably wouldn't have even stopped him. I'm sorry, but she was extremely nice and calm with him and followed the current laws. With Blount County being predominantly white, do you feel the traffic stops made on white people here are racially motivated, too, or do you feel "they must've done something to get pulled over?"
