  19. On U-tube on Saturday, in London, I saw two young men, who were saying nothing, not shouting, not bothering anyone, but showing a Saint George's English flag, being apprehended by police. The officer was chuntering something about 'preventing racism', and the young men were escorted to a pub, whose entrance was guarded by a line of police, while a mob of several hundred men were gathered outside screaming threats. I also saw a young woman who had an England 'three lions' flag which she wore as a cloak, being escorted away from the demonstration by the police. I also saw a black-clad, masked person standing and brandishing a large black flag with the Shahada in classical Arabic script on it in white, which we know to be the symbol of Islamic State. He was screaming something in - I guess - Arabic. In this context, I do not regard this representation of the Shahada as a personal confession of religious faith, but an aggressive threat. The police did nothing.

Her first action as Secretary of State for Education was totally ominous - putting a red pen through the ACT of Parliament which increased the protection of free speech for students, academic and non-academic staff, and visiting speakers in British Universities. I'm sure there are lots of laws that could have been used against the desecrators of our monuments - breach of the peace, threat to public order, vandalism, etc. Lawyers will know. She apparently refused to help a woman who was asking for the Charity's help because she was not 'black' enough. It would be interesting to know how many people her Charity has helped.
