The surrounding police did not protect Christian preacher Hatun Tash at Speaker's Corner that much, since the Muslim who attacked her stabbed her in the neck - probably in an attempt to behead her. The police then arrested her, while the attacker jogged gently away, and - to be fair to them - took her to hospital to save her life, where she remained for several weeks. She managed to take £10,000 off them (actually the taxpayer).
