  1. Amnesty International was set up to campaign for 'prisoners of conscience' ie people who were imprisoned purely for their politics, often tortured diabolically. This happened under regimes of different political stripes. To qualify for Amnesty's assistance the prisoner had never to have either perpetrated or advocated violence. Amnesty International should not be concerned with either asylum seekers or economic migrants. It is not what it was set up to do.
