  1. Having heard P Bogossian speak and debate before, I assumed he was Head of Philosophy Department in U of Portland. I was flabbergasted and appalled when he said he did not even have tenure, and had actually been turned down for a tenured post that he had applied for in that 'University'. He had had Daniel Dennett as one of his referees. I wish a British university would offer him a job.

  2. The parlous state of free speech in Scotland - courtesy of Wee Kim Jong McKrankie and Humza McYousaf - has not been mentioned (remembering that Scottish Law is not the same as English Law).

  3. Cancel Culture does not hurt the powerful - some people are too big to be cancelled, eg J K Rowling or Chimamande Ngosi Adichie. It normally damages vulnerable people. It is now also being used against the dead who cannot defend themselves. It is not the same as criticising a person's actions, beliefs or speech. It is an attempt to airbrush them from history.

  4. Btw, in Scotland redheads are not disparaged or persecuted, probably because there are too many of them. I was baffled to discover that this was a thing in England.

  5. If a person or people had the freedom to argue against these incitements to violence without fear of being killed themselves, then there would be the chance of neutralising the wicked incitements, and the person making them would be discredited and condemned.

  6. If it is a wicked or absurd idea it can be refuted if there is freedom of speech.
