Whether an X-bearing or a Y- bearing sperm fertilises an egg is the first of a series of switch mechanisms in the developing embryo that can get out of synch. The development of the physical sex of the fetus is complicated, and in the past sometimes babies were wrongly diagnosed at birth as the wrong sex - this is much less likely to happen nowadays as chromosomes are looked at as well as genitalia. The point is, mental development before birth is subject to hormonal influences, as is physical development, and it is perfectly feasible that someone may from the earliest age feel like 'a female brain in a male body', or vice versa. This would be very rare statistically. Such people would obviously need and deserve to be supported and helped medically, surgically and psychologically to enable correspondence between body and mind. Again, it is very rare, and I don't remember any of the 'traditional' transsexuals expressing a single hostile word or thought towards women. I am thinking of such people as April Ashley and Jan (formerly James) Morris. I fail to understand why a wish to preserve safe spaces for women (who may have been abused by men) or to have people competing in the correct sporting categories - would a heavy-weight boxer be put into the ring with a middle-weight? - should be interpreted as 'transphobia'. It just looks like an excuse to practise mysogyny to me.
