1 Neil, do you allow your children to be vaccinated against whooping-cough, measles, mumps, rubella, tuberculosis?
2 The SARS-CoV-2 vaccines are not 'experimental'. Messenger RNA therapies have been used for ten years. The SARS-CoV-2 vaccines were apparently produced in less than a year because (a) a lot of the work had already been done - it was not being started from scratch, (b) mountains of money were thrown at all the vaccine developers, so they were able to get through the Phase II and III Trials much quicker than normal, (c) scientists worked day and night on their projects, some without a day's rest in seven months.
3 The reason I disagree with giving this vaccine to people under the age of 18 (except, possibly, if the child needs particular protection from COVID-19), is that it is more important to use the supplies of vaccine to vaccinate the populations of Africa, South Asia and South America. If we do not do this, the virus will continue to mutate, as they do, and new variants, perhaps worse than Delta in terms of transmissability and/or morbidity will spread around the World. No-one is safe until everyone is safe.
