The bomb set off in the taxi in the car park of the maternity hospital in Liverpool, on Remembrance Day, 11 November, a few years ago: The passenger wanted to be taken to (I think) the Anglican Cathedral in Liverpool. As the ride progressed, and the time approached 11.00 am (the time when the Cathedral would be packed, and the Silence would be starting), the driver became increasingly suspicious of the passenger who seemed to be becoming increasingly impatient and aggressive. The driver then decided not to drive to the Cathedral, but instead drove into the deserted hospital car park. He then jumped out of the taxi, locking it automatically from the outside, whereupon the passenger detonated his explosives and died in the ensuing inferno in the taxi. By his close observation and quick thinking this taxi driver probably saved the lives and limbs of hundreds of innocent people. It is a disgrace that he has not been awarded the George Medal.
