  1. Christmas is actually a pagan festival - that's one reason O Cromwell abolished it. It is a time for atuffing yourself with food and drink, having big fires and lights, bringing evergreens into the house to remind ourselves that Spring will come again, entertain friends and get in touch with people we haven't seen for a while. This is to get us through the Winter Solstice. It is not necessarily Christian, and was appropriated by the Christians - like other Celtic festivals.
