  2. Ex-Muslims say that there are several versions of the Qu'ran, and there is no consensus on which is the most correct. In any case, a translation from the original (classical) Arabic cannot be wholly authentic. Speaking as one with a Calvinist upbringing, to imbue a random collection of paper with holy reverence, to the extent of threatening the life of someone who accidentally damages it, amounts to idolatry. I would have thought Muslims would have thought the same way (see destruction of statues, etc).
