There are probably enough NHS doctors of his persuasion to treat him surreptitiously. My guess from the start: he was from Pakistan (not quite correct, as it turned out), the younger child is his, he was living with the woman who was trying to leave him as he had been violent, etc. It is when a woman tries to leave such a man that her life is in greatest danger, that is when it is very common for the man to attempt to murder the woman.
