  2. I thought that the whole point of schools and universities was that they provide the intellectual and cultural experience that their pupils and students do not have available at home.

  3. During the First World War Saint-Sans formed a petition to try to prohibit German and Austrian music from being performed in public. Sadly, some French musicians signed this. But it is notable that both Debussy and Ravel refused to sign.
