Btw, I was told that, back in the 1960s, a good Canadian study - properly randomised and double-blinded, which is very difficult to do when studying psychopathology - compared results of passing an electric current across the non-dominant hemisphere only, and across both hemispheres, as an ECT treatment for depression. Improvement was comparable in each group, but the very unwanted side-effect of an unpredictable level of memory loss was much less in the non-dominant-hemisphere group. I don't know if this has been replicated. I haven't been able to find it in the PsychLit.
