  1. There is a good article on the web from BBC Culture.by Neil Armstrong called 'The man who thought orgasms could save the World'. Olivia Laing is quoted as saying, 'Reich had the misfortune to be taken up posthumously by some fairly loathsome men who helped create the lasting image of "orgasm man".' For American readers, 'fairly' in this context is literally translated as 'extremely'. It would be interesting if Josh and Hugo could do an analysis/critique of Reich's theory about the cause-and-effect relationship between sexual repression and the development of Fascism. I think the time and place of Reich's life are relevant to his beliefs. It's too sweeping of you, Carl, to condemn the whole of Germany and all Germans, along with all Psychoanalysis, on the basis of the horrible events and actions you relate here. Contentious statement: Freud is to modern Psychoanalysis as Lavoisier is to modern Chemistry.

Wilhelm Reich (1897-1957) was expelled from the Communist Party and the International Psychoanalytic Association, deported from Nazi Germany and Norway, and had his books burned by the American FDA. His 'The Mass Psychology of Fascism' is the only book to have been officially burned on a national basis in the US. Freud broke with him, and the post-Freudians - eg Ferenczi - condemned him.
