  1. The Queer-Theory Activists are falling into the same trap as Orwell. He was not a psychologist or psycholinguist. Also, psycholinguistics has advanced a lot in the 75 years since he wrote '1984'. He assumed that thought is entirely dependent on language, and that you can destroy concepts by scrubbing words out of dictionaries and books. But there is a lot of thought without language, as psychologists have demonstrated in non-human primates and pre-linguistic babies (demonstrating induction, for example). In humans, the attempt by a tyrant to outlaw/erase words - even if successful - would result in a new mapping of words on concepts. A previous concept might be given several names. You might have more than one word describing different applications of a concept - just as you sometimes cannot map words exactly on to concepts in a one-to-one fashion when translating between languages. The concepts would not be erased. It would seem that the Queer Theorists live entirely in a world of words - but we knew that already. However, it is true that this is yet another blatant indication of their intention, which IS to destroy concepts and to minutely dictate thought.
