  1. It's too easy to pretend that you are having a serious discussion of abortion by gigglingly showing us ill-educated, ignorant, neurotic and foul-mouthed Americans for our delectation. I notice that many young men who have an emotional attachment to other people's fetus's give the impression that they would not be in the least bit interested in taking responsibility for practising contraception, assuming that this is entirely a girl's or woman's responsibility, and that this is easy to do. It is not. The contraceptive 'pill' and the IUD cause severe side-effects in some people. Diaphragms do not make one ill, but are inconvenient and messy to use. They require copious amounts of clean water to use - not possible in many countries. Contraceptives have an average failure rate across methods of about 2 per cent. This would account for most of the abortions per annum in the UK. The rational position would be never to have sexual intercourse with anyone unless one would be happy to have his child. I'm not sure how happy many young men would be about this today.
