  1. 50,000 Huguenots fled actual massacre (St Bartholomew's Eve) to settle in England. Their immediate emergency support was met by voluntary public subscriptions (crowd funding). Very quickly they were self-supporting as they brought industry (eg textiles) with them, and actually provided work for the existing population.
