  1. Too many people in the NHS do not speak English: (a) about 10 per cent of patients need an interpreter and/or a translator. Expensive? Very! (b) Many of the staff do not have English as a first language. They may speak it, but do they understand the idioms and colloquialisms that native patients are quite likely to use? Very often they do not. (c) 'The Times', Saturday 15 February 2025, p 16: headline - 'NHS Diversity jobs pay "double" junior doctors' salaries'. Tens of millions of pounds would be saved if the NHS DIE (Diversity, Inclusion, Equity) cadres were sacķed overnight.

  2. I notice that British cars, which used to have an identifying plate if they were going abroad, saying 'GB' now have one saying 'UK'.
