  1. FGM, or the mutilation of the genitals of little girls, has not been mentioned. It is still done to thousands of children in Britain every year although it has been a specifically defined criminal offence for over 35 years, with a prison sentence of 14 years. There has been one conviction since the statute outlawing it because of 'cultural sensitivity'. St Thomas's Hospital sees at least 200 children who have had this done to them, per annum, and there are sixteen centres in the country trying to alleviate the suffering of these children.
