  2. The Norse and the Danes used the word 'viking' as a verb. It meant 'to travel away from home (the farm)', perhaps to rob Lindisfarne and murder all the monks, perhaps to find new land to settle on.

Many moons ago, I was discriminated against, by being expelled from a beautiful Youth Hostel with a swinning pool, in Biarritz, along with English (I am Scottish), Danes, Americans and a New Zealander, on the grounds that we were Anglo-Saxons - that was the term used. 'No Anglo-Saxons! Get out!' - in French, of course, from the Warden. He made sure that we had all done our chores beforehand. It was particularly tough on the Jewish boy among us to be discriminated against on the grounds of being Anglo-Saxon.
