Clowns: when I was a child I used to be taken to the circus as one of the Christmas treats (the other one was the Pantomime which, in Glasgow, had very high production values - four white Shetland ponies pulling Cinderella's coach on stage, for example, with great stars as well). I remember regarding the circus 'clowns' - really Augustes - as being boring and untidy, and being fascinated by the real Clown from the Commedia del Arte. He was in a sparkling suit of sequens, with a white face and intriguing asymmetrical eyebrow and cute conical hat - mysterious and glamorous.

  2. That 'teacher' needs to be at least in intensive Psychoanalysis, if not sectioned (or committed, as the Americans would say). She must be kept away from children.
