  1. Passivity by default: perhaps in former days this was a protective mechanism - 'freezing', 'lying low'. People who have been physically attacked often report that they 'froze' as if paralysed and could not even scream. It may in some cases be protective in a purely physical situation. 'Environmentalists': we are not all the same. Anthropogenic global warming is a fact - an inconvenient fact. Denying this and not doing anything about it is the prime manifestation of Learned Helpless. Instead of 'The taxpayer will bail me out', the deeply held belief/hope is 'Nature will bounce back', 'There will be no irreversible global changes rendering the Earth uninhabitable by humans'. 'After all, it's always bounced back before, hasn't it?' This is to fall into the Inductive Fallacy. Keep up the good work.
