  1. Improvisation: Beethoven wrote 'Cadenza' sometimes above the stave, giving the signal to the soloist to have an improvised solo. The most amazing ones I have heard hsve been from Canadian violinist Gil Shahan when he was playing Beethoven's violin concerto.
