I read an explanation of this much-reproduced photo, in 'The Guardian', of all places! The supposedly 'privileged' boys did not feel so, and did not look down on the other boys. The little boy standing nearest to the boy leaning on the pillar had not felt - on being interviewed as an adult - at all inferior to the public school boys, had not felt underprivileged in any way, and had had a happy and successful life.
