  1. The Prime Minister, etc, is not elected as Prime Minister. She/he is an elected Member of Parliament - except, I think, for Sir Alec (Lord) Douglas-Hume, who emerged from a smoke-filled room.. It was the obvious lack of democracy, even within the Parliamentary Party, far less more widely, that prompted the Tories to change their method of choosing a leader - with disastrous results as we see. (I think Theresa May emerged too.)
