  1. Why does Sadiq Khan win elections? 1 He has engineered unlimited number of terms for mayor - like Xi Jin-pin in China as President. It used to be a maximum of two terms. 2 He engineered a first-past-the-post voting system for mayor - it used to be by proportional representation. With the new system, the opposition votes are very split when there are multiple candidates - I think there were about 10 at his latest election. So - as with the Labour Government - it is possible to be elected with a minority of the votes. 3 He has a reliable captive voting base of Muslims who will always vote for a co-religionist.
