His being a 17-year-old with no social life tends to suggest that he spends much time on his computer and is vulnerable to being recruited by ACTUAL extremists, as were the girls of Bethnal Green High School when they were enticed to join ISIS. The Southport perpetrator could have both influences applying to him.
