  1. Unfortunately, our fate is not always dependent on our choices. Life is much harder than that. Other people have free will too. Ever heard of pregnancy caused by rape-incest? This sometimes happens to very underage girls. Also, there is the insistence of antiabortionists that a woman carrying a dead baby should continue with the pregnancy to term. What about double monsters? These are twins which have not separated (more than so-called Siamese twins), with perhaps one body and two heads, and either four or eight limbs. A normal per-vaginam birth would be impossible and no obstetrician would put a scar on a uterus for this. You say that no reasonable person could desire an abortion, but what if they had been gang-raped by criminals? The woman would not even know who the father was - only that he was a criminal. She might then feel that she had a cancer inside her - one that she had to get rid of at all costs. These may be worst-case situations, but they are all real-case situations, and taking an extreme antiabortionist stand only makes life more difficult for women. The alternative to legal abortion is not no abortion; it is criminal abortion. Read what obstetricians of the 20th century have to say about this.
