I have just seen on U-tube's channel 'Absolute History', the story of British traitor, Kim Philby - 'Cambridge 5: the real Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy'. I knew the story from reading, but there was one fact in this narration from eye witnesses and acquaintances of Philby that really struck me: Philby wasn't rigorously interrogated because of pure snobbery. First of all, he was 'a good chap' who could not possibly be suspect. Secondly, when he had to be interrogated, the probably most effective interrogator was rejected on the grounds that in the Army during World War II he was 'only' a Sergeant. The person who was chosen - and did a poor job - had been a Brigadier.
Why do I think this is relevant? Farage and Tice have to decide whether they are cos- playing at being MPs, or whether they are serious politicians representing people who they would not necessarily want to go on holiday with, but who they wish to support as fellow citizens.
