The prescient taxi driver drove him into the hospital car park because he thought his passenger was suspicious, and thus saved hundreds of lives. The man deserves a medal. Will someone please give him one?

'Phobia': from the Greek, meaning 'fear'. Now a medical term in English, meaning 'an irrational or neurotic fear of an object or situation which is not objectively dangerous'. For example arachnophobia referring to a - sometimes crippling - fear of non-poisonous British spiders. Note that I say 'non-poisonous'. A fear of poisonous spiders would be perfectly rational - like a fear of being blown up on a commuter train, or of having Sharia law imposed on pone's country.😡

  18. I identify myself as 'I', 'me'. I expect to be addressed as 'you', or my name. This is easy in English as there is only one word for the second person. How I am spoken about behind my back (in the third person) is of no interest to me, unless it is libellous or threatening, when it will become very interesting to me.

  24. Diane Abbott got into Cambridge from a Comprehensive school, in the days when there were no 'reach-out' programmes or special considerations for 'outsiders'. I remember, about fifteen to twenty years ago, often listening to a Radio 4 programme called 'In Committee', which was a recording of a previous week's Parliamentary Committee. Quite often, Diane Abbott chaired one of these. She was an excellent chairperson in every way, never allowing repetitive arguments or fallacies, correcting errors immediately and keeping the subject on track. I feel that she has experienced trauma in her personal life and this has affected her badly. She needed to retire some years ago, and it is a great pity that she has not.
