  1. As a complete Luddite, I could not conceive of translating anything into or out of binary code, but I know computer geniuses do. What really puzzles me, though, is how do you translate binary code into modern English? We now have to concentrate a bit to understand Shakespeare (and we miss a lot of the jokes); we find it quite hard to understand Chaucer without a modern translation on the facing page; and by the time we get back to 'Beowulf' - well, Anglo-Saxon is a completely different language. Could that binary code be translated into Spanish, Russian, Hindi, Arabic (I am leaving out Mandarin as it is pictographic, not alphabetic)?
