Islam: I thoroughly recommend the channels 'Apostate Prophet' and 'Atheist Republic' - sorry, Connor, but there is a lot of information in it. These are ex-Muslims, and you need them to take you through the Qu'ran and the Hadith, and the philosophy of Islam, the religion (which does not necessarily apply to all those who believe that they are Muslim).

I fully sympathise with what the younger generation is saying. But, as an ancient crone, I must say that life 50 years ago was not paradisical. We earned peanuts, there was huge sexism on a scale which simply would not be believed now. There was homophobia (male homosexuality was decriminalised in 1967 or 68). There may well have been racism - you would have to ask someone from an ethnic minority about that. My husband and I - we both worked full-time - bought a house thanks to my mother giving us £1,000 as a deposit. We earned so little, we did not have a holiday, go for a meal out, or buy a cup of tea in a cafe, and I did not buy a lipstick for five years. My then husband was a junior hospital doctor who was on duty for about 90 hours per week. David Willetts seems to think life was very easy in those days. That may apply to him and the people he knows. It does not apply to me or the people I know.
