  1. Public transport in London: I find it quite all right, but then I am based, as are the people I know, in west London. I do not go into central London on Saturday afternoons.

  3. Democracy: the first-past-the-post electoral system becomes undemocratic when there are multiple candidates contesting a seat. It worked when there were two - or possibly three - candidates, and also when there was a very high turnout of voters at elections (often 80-90 per cent at General Elections). Now, with 6 to 8 candidates (or even more) frequently standing for a seat, there are often many more people voting against the 'winning' candidate than voting for them. The other main undemocratic influence is the blatant disregard of the political class for 'the Will of the People' - (please excuse me for quoting Maximilian Robespierre). Many politicians appear to forget that they are the servants of those who have elected them, and not a superior species who may, with impunity, regard the rest of us with contempt.
