  1. 'I think,, therefore I am' really means 'I doubt, therefore I am'. This was R Descartes trying to escape from radical scepticism, where everything had to be doubted - his 'Method' was the method of doubt. Radical scepticism led him to doubt his own existence. Then he had to say, *but, even if my body is an illusion, there must be SOMETHING that is doing the doubting*. Therefore I exist.
