I think this use of soap operas to inform the public - sometimes, of course, morphing into blatant propaganda - began immediately after the Second World War with 'The Archers' - 'an everyday story of country folk'. This went out on weekdays for 15 minutes on the predecessor to Radio 4, the Home Service - it is still going. The purpose of it was to inform - mainly farmers - about new developments and new legislation relating to farming. This was inserted into 'a story of everyday country folk' involving the human stories of three farming families centring on the 'Borsetshire' (Worcestershire) village of Ambridge.

Why I went off Reform-UK: 1 Farage throwing Tommy Robinson under the bus. 2 Using 'Hate Not Hope' to vet candidates, and even members. 3 Richard Tice referring to 'That Lot' (me). 4 Farage saying that large-scale deportation of illegal immigrants 'was a practical impossibility'. Farage is a follower, not a leader.

  7. 'The NHS is unusable.' Sorry, Peter, but i've just had great treatment from it - I dread to think how much it would cost if I was American. But, it's true that I have paid a ton of money over the decades into ir, and have never abused it. Great interview!
