Which is why it would make more sense not to donate money to support companies, but instead purchase stock in the company. Maybe a new platform similar to Steam or Patreon, but instead of giving donations that do nothing, invest in some sort of social stock ownership that gives you a say in the direction of development and part of the profits of the product. This also pushes more accountability for making and meeting goals, both legally and ethically. Legally because person working on project is beholden to shareholders, and ethically because of need for transparency and accountability to customer who is also stock holder.

Is the internet a permanent thing? If it goes down, does that mean so does your ownership of a thing that you only held online?
