  1. "Downfall" is absolutely stunning. Few films have ever portrayed Hitler on screen beyond just the portrait on the wall of generals desk. It's so intimate you forget you're watching a film and not a documentary, or even in the room yourself. The fact that it was actually made by the Germans themselves lends it an authenticity that can't be matched by anyone else, almost an admission of guiltiness. It's on par with Saving Private Ryan in every way. "When Trumpets Fade" is also great, BUT it had the misfortune of being released the same year as SPR. We have to mention Band of Brothers, it's not just a show, it's a 12 hour SPR.
