  1.  @Ktaurus26  canceling that IFR plan put the fatal chain of events into play. I’m only a low time ( 2,000 hr) VFR ( by choice) pilot and have learned even the high time, very qualified, highly rated pilots screw up. And this is no exception.

  3.  @Ktaurus26  many in the non flying world don’t realize that jets although great aircraft can kill you quicker than a small GA plane. Thurmond Munsen comes to mind among others. As they say a twin engine plane gets you to the crash site sooner. I only fly day vfr as I’m in no hurry to get to my destination. And I know many commercial pilots who feel the same way in small planes
