It won't pass; the members of congress feed at the campaign trough; Invitation Homes just bought 264 homes in Vegas for $98 million which was part of a $650 million dollar deal which included 1900 homes. The projection is that by 2030 real estate investment firms will own 40% of all housing units.

ALL the employees at Panera will walk; the next job they get will be at the $20.00 rate. How on earth did these people get rich ? I mean couldn't they think of this ? Home prices will not go up even with lower interest rates due to the fact that few buyers can afford the elevated price AND the elevated property tax that comes with it. The buyer pool is small and that pool dictates prices.....

@Kurplode Just an organizational shift; getting rid of the garbage and engaging home builders in new construction. American Homes 4 Rent, TriCon and others have pretty much doubled down on their investment. Nothing changes the fact that REIF’s are all in; great write offs; less regulation and more or less complete control of the market rate utilizing artificial scarcity i.e. keeping product off the market to maintain or drive prices higher while writing off revenue loss on empty units; sorry to burst your bubble.

@Supercharged111 Your statement is old school thinking that doesn't " fully " apply in todays' market. While I do believe buying is better than renting, I can't say with any certainty which is truly better; mortgages are no longer " fixed " because of property tax creep coupled with homeowners insurance creep and HOA fees continual rise. The future cost of replacing a roof is going to be more as is general maintenance i.e. pool and landscaping/lawn care and may force some to take out a second mortgage. The original poster is correct in that there is no such thing as property ownership as long as " property taxes are a thing "; in fact, if property taxes and insurance keeps going up the homeowner may be forced to sell even if the property is paid off. Property tax is the same as lot rent in a trailer park.
