IMHO, Putin invites this kind of attractive, indoctrinated and hostile "journalsits" because he knows he will easily dismantle their "narrative" (or plain lies, insults, etc) with simple facts and respect, delivering his points and policies to a wider audience, successfully. In short, Putin plays these games because he knows the favorable result beforehand. Like smart people do.

Aggressors always blame "others" for their own self-made disasters, and look at themselves as "superior", "exceptional", etc. to justify their plundering, interventions, invasions, etc.... This aberration can't last forever, and that's what Putin explains well (and warns) in a lot of open interviews.

And he always dismantles their indoctrinated "narrative" (or lies, plain insults, etc), with simple facts and respect.... Imagine "joe" or Kamala facing openly such questioning live, by a hostile foreigner for 5 minutes. Or by this same "tough" journalist.
