While this video actually has some very very good information there's a number of things that you have to take into account when you're dealing with attack helicopters on the battlefield. Number one, videos of Russians flying helicopters are way too high. You make it very very easy for man pads to engage you. You need to skim the ground and make it as difficult as possible for the Seeker head to be able to discern the aircraft from warm trees and ground. Man pads are primarily designed for aircraft with a blue sky in the background. As long as you hug the ground you live that much longer. Additionally the aircraft will carry electronic counter measures, infrared Jammers as well as chaff and flare dispensers. Not as easy as it seems. As far as them being obsolete, if you're a grunt a attack helicopter is your best friend. You hear the enemy coming before you as you're in your positions you can spot out their locations and relay that to the forward controller who will then Vector in the attack helicopters to decimate the enemy. That's how it actually works in real life.

You can jam a drone, you can't Jam in apache. In addition the Apache carries 750 rounds of 30 mm ammo. You can plaster a lot of troops in a tree line with that. Not entirely easy to do that with a drone. As well as the hellfires and the 2.75-in folding fin Rockets it makes a tech helicopters a nightmare for ground troops. Can it be shot down, hell yeah that's why we have insurance.

Actually it was because the Huey hog wasn't fast enough to stay with the chinooks, as well as they were terrible at maneuvering with that heavy ordinance on board. I flew the cobra, and the huey in flight school and there is a world of difference. Like going from driving a minivan to driving a Maserati. The Russians have the problem that you're addressing the Blackhawk can handle in as much as if you shoot down the Blackhawk fully armed as it is you've also lost that gunship and troop transport. Kill two birds with one stone. The ability for the cobras or Apaches to be flexible stick and move as it were makes it a highly destructive aircraft in that type of mission. Blackhawk is still too large and not nearly as maneuverable as an apache.

This was an excellent video, by far you have covered a lot of things that others have missed specifically terrain flying and electronic warfare countermeasures. The one huge advantage that gunships have over drones is that not only can we carry a lot of ordinance in comparison but we have a big ass gun. That big ass gun makes a big difference for those troops on the ground as immediate suppression can be brought about, immediately. In addition to being able to have two heads looking around for threats instead of just one controller is a big boost for efficiency as well. Yes, it risks the pilot but as a former Cobra pilot that's our job. We're there to support the Infantry. A drill sergeant once told me in basic training if you want to guarantee buy a toaster.

Are they really considered obsolete if they've all been destroyed?

You truly depends on how you fly them, the Russians are flying way way too high. They should be scraping the treetops and communicating with troops on the ground. And that's a pivotal issue, we do not overfly the forward troops, we are there big brother looking over their shoulder. And when the bully sticks his head out they let us know where he is and we will handle it from there but we do what's called combined arms combat which means even the helicopters don't fight alone

Or it's possible that those missiles do not work as well as promised.

Add today's count they've lost 80 of these helicopters, 42% of the entire fleet. At one point they actually have to get close enough to engage the enemy and if they're not built strong enough to take hits and still keep flying it's not that good a helicopter. The ukrainians have taken out 42% of those helicopters of all those that have been built while during Desert Storm we lost 16 Apache in the air and four on the ground due to a mortar strike. Who's 16 represent 2% of the 189 Apaches the US Army owns. 2% to 42%, numbers don't lie.

@zxwolf96 Number one, a heat seeker would destroy an engine located on a pod "away" from the aircrafts body. Number two, the fuel tanks are self sealing, and in the case of an engine detonation, really not likely to blow the aircraft up.
1
@SniperFallen06 It really depends on the circumstances of the crash. Speed, aircraft type, impact attitude, obstacles, landing (or crashing) area. Both can be catastrophic.
1
@atmosrepair The transmission on "ALL" helicopters are designed to disconnect from the engine and allow the aircraft to enter an autorotative decent. They don't drop like a rock unless the transmission is compromised, which I've never heard of that happening after 10 years of flying hueys and cobras.
1
@atmosrepair I appreciate that man. People don't realize that manpads are designed to go after a hot source in a blue sky. Not one that's flowing through treetops or 5 to 8 ft off the ground. In addition we have flair and chaff dispensers and infrared jammers as well as a radar jammer and radar warning receivers which not only till you you're being tracked but the direction and distance to the radar by a voice, usually female. The aircraft are outfitted to survive, what the Russians are doing I have no idea. They fly in the nosebleed section. It's not surprising they've been blown out of the sky left and right.

@atishayritulpatwa I respect the ukrainians but because they don't have air assets like helicopters they are steadily losing ground to the russians. I flew a cobra for almost 10 years and even that ancient machine could Target a 4X4 ft box moving 2.3 MI away, and we carried four tow missiles. I want to see a drone do that. With a good helicopter Fleet you can move your soldiers around the battlefield rapidly with gunship support. We have proven that surprise is as great an ally as any. Unfortunately the ukrainians are fighting this battle almost like World War I and World War ii. We are far beyond that capability today.
1
@chrissmith7669 additionally they have extreme engagement ranges. All we need are the troops in contact to point out where they are, either by map coordinates or discrete laser targeting. We will get the job done.
1
@Riley77777 because they found out the hind is a big-ass target.
1
I flew Army Cobras for almost 10 years. We don't fly like the Russians do a much much better Target whereas we scrape the ground as we go along. Tactics and pilot skills make a huge difference.

@xaina222 drones are great for one operator to take out one tank or one man at a time, Attack Helicopters takes out whole groups at one time with not only an explosive in the missile but explosives in the rockets and all the Damned 20 mm you can pump out. One drone operator does not equal the Firepower and destructive capability of just one attack helicopter, if flown properly.

When I was in basic training a drill sergeant screamed at all of us, "If you want to guarantee, buy a toaster!" Mighty fine words that still live truthful today.

@chrissmith7669 Amen brother

We're not taking Greenland or Panama or any other place. Trump says ridiculous stuff to decoy conversations from his irrational ideas that he doesn't want people to pay attention to. He's an idiot, but unfortunately he's great at making you look here and not there.
