  1. I'm American and I experienced this same thing in Japan to an extent. We are from Christianized cultures that forbid judging people by their appearance (John 7:24). Even if we call ourselves "secular", we still base our ethics on Judeochristian philosophy. We can't hold that same standard to cultures who haven't been as thoroughly Christianized.✝
