It's ironic that it was Thatcher that helped the EU become the economic juggernaut that is now able to roll over the UK.

The problem is too little democracy not too much, here in Australia voting is mandatory, elections are on Saturday and employers must release employees to vote, what almost 100% turnout does is it dilutes the extremists and the stupid voters and leads to stable but boring government where everything works much as it's supposed to.

  18. In 2008 in Australia instead of austerity the Labor government gave every recipient of a government payment $900 with the instruction to go out and spend! Which they did and so the GFC was shrugged off.

On the contrary- A Labour with a slim majority or even minority is EXACTLY what the UK needs to force Starmer to drop this ridiculous me too ism and listen to suggestions of radical reform of the voting system, otherwise it will be just business as usual and as soon as the economy stabilizes the public will feel comfortable enough to forgive the crimes of the last 8 years that should be enough to banish the Tories to political history and oblivion.
