Auld fella in the corner of the pub: Lads did I ever tell ye about the time I was in the Waffen SS fighting against the Red Army?

The funny thing about that German air raid on Dublin was that the synagogue was hit. The funnier thing was that the Germans apologised and paid reparations. π

Β @galinneallΒ Untrue, Britain would have starved (as it nearly did) without Irish food imports, it was in no position to ignore food then as it isn't now. As as for loyalty, you probably missed the bit about achieving independence.

And its still true today, thanks to Britain shooting itself in the head with brexit Ireland will be reunited.

Β @jordaneggerman4734Β No its been a great conversation, I certainly hope you don't think I'm an apologist for him unfortunately WW2 history channels do tend to draw their share of Nazi sympathisers and nuts. I think its more instructive to look at the decisions up to the end 1942 because after that point the war turned and most of the choices were slipping out of his hands. I just don't accept Hitler being dismissed as a joke (thanks Downfall parodies) or insane because its a get out clause for him (if captured he would have stood trial and been executed no doubt), especially as everyone seems to have treated Stalin as a deadly serious opponent.

@ΠΊΠΎΡΠΌΠΈΡΠ΅ΡΠΊΠΈΠΉ ΠΊΠ°Π΄Π΅Ρ You are highly ignorant and uninformed about the role of "the Irish free state" as it was at the time, it played a vital role in supplying labour and food to Britain during the early part of the war when Britain was losing the battle of the Atlantic.

@ΠΊΠΎΡΠΌΠΈΡΠ΅ΡΠΊΠΈΠΉ ΠΊΠ°Π΄Π΅Ρ I don't think it does because it was neutral and an independent country......Do you see how that works?

Β @jordaneggerman4734Β I've read extensively about him and I wouldn't say he was crazy at all, I think that was a later narrative added by people trying to make sense of the scale of the destruction, yes he appears to have sociopathic tendencies even before his brutal Great war experiences and near the end of his life became increasingly paranoid (understandably due to assassination attempts) but he was not erratic or easily deflected from course, most of his wartime decisions (from a strategic point of view) were reasonably logical ones to take. There were of course mistakes, like mistreating the population of parts of Russia who initially greeted him as a liberator from the Soviets but I would describe him as bad not mad.

Β @jordaneggerman4734Β Oh well you're very familiar with the subject I don't disagree with any of your comments, he wasn't a trained military officer as he only rose to low rank and as I said tactical mistakes were made (because of his constant interference) he did however have a good memory for logistical figures but the nature of the Nazi regime far from being a brutal ordered machine was just a rats nest of chaos fear and mutual loathing, would you have been the one to correct Hitler and tell him he was wrong? π

@blahblahblah blah Where did I say that?
1
@blahblahblah blah Ireland will be reunited sooner rather than later thats demographics, I said nothing about violence.
1
@blahblahblah blah Well when both countries were in the EU it mattered little to either community in NI whether it was administrated by Westminster or Dublin all the rules were the same for everyone, brexit was a convulsion of English nationalism so it naturally provoked a nationalist backlash from other nations notably Scotland, and as it's already proving an economic disaster NI will out of necessity have to deepen ties with Ireland, it will also become poorer in comparison to its southern neighbour so there will be real differences in lifestyle and opportunity, as the nationalist Catholics will eventually become a demographic majority (due to them not fleeing oppression and violence anymore) they will vote for reunion with Ireland and there's not a thing anyone can do about it.
