The geopolitical reality is that you rely most upon your neighbours for trade and security, that's the way it has always been and the economic reality of today is there are three global superpowers, the USA China and the EU, so every so called independent country in their orbits will necessarily have to fall under their influence.

There's a reason your politicians have pursued closer ties with the EU and that's because economic legal and security experts know better what the country needs than the people who are largely ignorant (not their fault it's not their job) and open to populist lies and disinformation (which is their fault), look at the mess the UK is in because their cowardly cynical politicians turned the decision over to the public who were highly unqualified to decide.

They are vassals but that's the reality of the global economic system now, either you're a vassal of the the USA or of China or of the EU.
