I still think you should do a short transmission fluid series. Lots of facts and friction to be presented to your audience. I know what I said….

@chrisr.986 emissions, not necessarily the companies fault.. government regulation…

Well you have converted me. Without actually seeing the analysis I didn’t really understand how it could be a bad thing. Now I know. So basically if I want to adjust parameters of my oil for example viscosity.. instead of using Lucas oil stabilizer I should just use a different weight oil. Much cheaper also. What about transmission additives like Lube gard though?

@ fair enough, I’m asking because I bought a car with a 6l50 shudder. I used the instant shudder fix, Granted I changed the fluid for better fluid also so I’m not sure which did what. I installed a cooler too, wonder how that affects wear, as it takes much longer to reach operating temps. Could be a good video.

@themotoroilgeek also trans fluid is a little different. I’ve never heard a mechanic say don’t change the engine oil if it’s old and dirty… I kept coming across that statement for trans fluid though. There are a couple of different reasons why people say that. You might clean the varnish and transport deposits to places you don’t want them and also the friction material in the fluid might be allowing for better engagement and if you flush it out you end up with slipping and other problems. I dont know what to believe anymore , but if any of that were true, in theory you wouldn’t change the fluid, you would leave the dirty fluid in and just put the additives back in and call it good.

My guess is the government is partly to blame for extended service intervals. Regulation to limit pollution etc…
